The project

Admissions systems are a form of public infrastructure

Coordinated choice and assignment systems connect families' preferences with schools' or universities' places and priorities. Their design affects how people search, apply and gain access to education.

The research documents their adoption and design across 149 countries and more than 600 cities. CCAS Wiki provides a living environment for exploring systems and evidence; its evolving catalog is broader than the fixed research sample.

What the work involves

Map adoption

Compare where and when coordinated admission systems have been introduced.

Compare design choices

Document how priorities, applications and assignment mechanisms differ across settings.

Connect systems and evidence

Make comparative information available alongside research that can inform policy design.

Research & implementation

A review paired with a living platform

The documented adoption data span 1950–2023, while the website continues to develop. Research-sample counts describe the review and should not be confused with the number of countries tracked by the live catalog.
