The project
Child-by-child advice can miss the family's problem
Sibling priorities link applications that might otherwise seem independent. A family's chance of placing children together depends on the rules and on how it combines and orders applications.
The project studies those incentives using administrative information, surveys and assignment analysis. Its aim is to connect the structure of the mechanism with guidance families can understand and use.
What the work involves
Understand joint applications
Represent how multiple children’s choices interact within one household.
Analyze priority rules
Study how sibling priorities change incentives and possible assignment outcomes.
Inform family decisions
Translate the analysis into guidance that considers the family as a whole.
Research & implementation
Research and guidance development
The active project combines analysis of the assignment mechanism with administrative and survey information. It studies application strategies and develops family-level guidance; impact estimates are not yet reported in the public project record.
