About
Joshua is an Associate Professor of Education and Economics at Boston University, jointly appointed at the Wheelock College of Education and the Department of Economics. He earned his BA in Physics from Harvard, an MPhil in Education from Cambridge, and a PhD in Economics from Columbia. He was a public high school math teacher in Watertown, MA before starting his PhD, and was previously on the faculty at the Harvard Kennedy School and Brandeis. He spent 2022-2023 on leave from BU as a senior economist on the White House Council of Economic Advisers. His research is in the economics of education — STEM education, college access, online learning, and the labor-market value of skills — with publications in the QJE, AER: Insights, and the Journal of Labor Economics. He and Christopher are coauthors on the QJE study of sibling spillovers in college and major choice across four countries.
