About
Francisco is a Full Professor at the Institute of Economics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Co-Scientific Director of J-PAL Latin America & the Caribbean, and currently serves as Provost for Institutional Affairs at PUC Chile (since 2025). He earned his BA and MA at PUC-Chile and his PhD in Economics at MIT, then joined the PUC faculty in 2006 and has been Full Professor since 2020. His research spans the economics of education, development, economic history, and political economy in Latin America. He was awarded the Mario Henrique Simonsen Memorial Lecture in 2013 by LACEA. He and Christopher are long-running collaborators on Chilean education-policy research, including the equilibrium effects of informed school choice and the digital school profiles work.
